This post will be like a museum of Roman art history....
Do you want to know why??
Because it will have the a lot of ancient information!!
So....let's start with 8th century B.C!

Architecture
In 8th century B.C.............
Roman was excelled in art & architecture by using arch*, vault*, and concrete better than anyone else. Roman was assimilated all other cultures.
*Arch - curved architectural element used to span an opening.

*Vault - arched roof or covering made of brick, stone, or concrete.

-Colosseum:
Wall- made from concrete, decorated with plaster and marble.
Height- 16 stories building, 144 feet tall
Capacity- can fit up to 50 thousand people
Statues- niche filled with statues (copy Greek statues)
3 Emperors involved in construction- Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian
Its used to be a place for entertainment and need to have a ticket to enter!!
The standard Roman sequence was Corinthian- top
                                                          Ionic- middle
                                                          Doric- bottom

-Pantheon:
Purpose- a temple for all the God
Walls- 20 feet thick (because its need to support the huge dome on the top). Its decorated with coffered.
Coffered- a ceiling with coffered.
Floors- 144 feet diameters
Dome- 144 feet from the floor. It is thicker at the base and thinner at the top
Oculus (the hole on the dome)- 30 feet wide
Drainage system- it is in the floor (because its have a hole on top of the dome so its need to have a system that protect the Pantheon from flooding.)

-Roman Baths: (Only RICH people)
Pools- It is for their hygiene
Temperature-Caldarium=hot (heat with stone under the pool)
                      Tepidarium=room temperature
                      Frigidarium=cold

-Arch of Constantine (Triumphal Arch):

Its celebrates the Constantine assumption of power.

-Forum Romanum:

It is used for discussion hall, big meeting hall, and political hall. (Also used for shopping and movie theater)

-City Planning;

It is planned for running water, city square, pay roads, section of area, and more!

-Homes:

Domus- It is for rich people. It have a running water, atrium, veranda, many rooms and 2 stories. (Also built around the garden)

Insulae- It is for poor people. It is a simple flats house, no water and few rooms.

-Aqueducts (a marvel of engineering!):

Use- to bring a water from the high mountain to the city by the force of gravity.

Concrete- They only repair it at April 1 & November 1! (because the temperature affected the concrete to expand and contract and after that its crack.....)

Rome have 77 aqueducts.

It is a composed of arches and vaults.

Sculpture

-Head of Augustus:

Now it was located at J. Paul Getty Museum.

eyes- made by glass paste

-Constantine the Great (or Emperor Constantine):

Height- approximately 30 feet tall

Eyes- his eyes are big because to show that the eyes are the window to the soul

He is Catholic.

He was founded in 50 A.D

-Equestrian statues:

Marcus Aurelius;-

Made of bronze.

It is a only bronze statue that survive from Roman in a good condition.

Victor Emmanuel II;-

It was built to honor the 1st king of a unify of Italy.

-Column of Trajan:

The column looks like a comic strip because it record all of the Trajan's victory.

It comic strip was a bas relief because it is flat like a coin :)

-Paintings:

Use- to decorated the house; family portrait and fake landscape.

Fresco- painting in wet plaster

-Pompeii;

It is the Roman town-city near modern Naples. It was destroyed and buried by a volcano from the  Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Pompeii was lost for nearly 1700 years before its rediscovery in 1748.

-Mosaics:
Size- 1-2 cm only (each pieces)
Smaller stone- 150 tiles per 1 square cm.
Once, they founded a 7 thousands square feet of mosaics!
